Spinners Return Home Victorious LOWELL - In the bottom of the fifth inning Matt Murton hit a home run, which broke a 2-2 tie and ultimately proved to be the game-winning run and RBI as the Lowell Spinners defeated the Vermont Expos 5-2 on Jimmy Buffett Night before 5,000 fans at LeLacheur Park in New York Penn-League action.
The win was a much-need win for the Spinners (20-19), who returned home after losing two out of three at Aberdeen and dropped their record to an even .500.
Lowell jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings before Vermont tied it back up in the fifth inning with two runs of their own. Murton's home run made it 3-2 and the Spinners tacked on two more insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Offensively, Scooter Jordan, Iggy Suarez, Jeremy West, Brandon Moss and Robert Evan each had a hit. Evans also scored two runs and Jordan also stole two bases.
On the mound, Jarrett Gardner picked up the win improving to 3-1 on the season and Brian Marshall came on in the
ninth to pick up his first professional save.
The two teams return to action tonight with Lowell's Arthur Santos (0-2, 1.80 ERA) oppossing former Spinner Dan Generelli (0-0, 2.25). Game time is 5:05 p.m. and can be heard on WCAP 980 AM.
