SaraSox topple Miracle

SARASOTA -- Sarasota scored eight runs and collected eight hits by the second inning Wednesday night against Fort Myers in a key West Division matchup at Ed Smith Stadium.

That was the SaraSox total tally in a 8-5 victory over the Minnesota Twins' affiliate before 259 spectators.

The SaraSox improved to 24-21 during the second half of the season and 62-52 overall while Fort Myers dropped to respective records of 21-26 and 52-63.

Slugging SaraSox first baseman Jeremy West got the winners going offensively with a three-run home run, his 16th of the season, in the bottom of the first inning and unloaded a booming two-run double off the top of the left-field wall in the second.

Sarasota's Brian Marshall (1-1) earned the victory after working 32/3 scoreless inning after starting pitcher Luis Mendoza yielded seven hits and five runs in 31/3 innings. Clay Meredith earned his third save after coming on in the ninth.

Brandon Moss, playing in his first game here after being promoted from the Class A Augusta Greenjackets of the South Atlantic League, Iggy Suarez and Dustin Pedroia each contributed two singles.

Felix Molina led Fort Myers with two doubles and a base hit as the Miracle outhit the SaraSox 12-11.

Philadelphia Phillies' Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt will bring his Clearwater Threshers to Ed Smith Stadium for games tonight and Friday evening at 7.

Tonight's game is Brighthouse Networks $1 Night with general admission tickets, draft beers, hot dogs and soft drinks each costing $1.
