GAME KEYS: Luis Montanez drilled a two-out solo home run over the
left-field wall in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Iowa a victory
Sunday afternoon. The win is Iowa's seventh in its past eight games and keeps
the Cubs in the playoff hunt at 2 ½ games behind first-place Nashville.
Zephyrs starting pitcher Nelson Figueroa took a no-hitter into the seventh
inning, when a pop fly to shallow left field dropped in for the first hit. He
allowed two hits and one run. New Orleans scored its only run in the fourth
inning on Dan Dement's groundout to second base. Sean Marshall made a rehab
start for Iowa and pitched seven innings, allowing one unearned run. Clay
Rapada earned the win, and Travis Hughes got the loss.
NOTES: New Orleans has lost 10 of its past 12 games and finished a 13-game
road trip 3-10. . . . New Orleans wrapped up its road schedule Sunday,
finishing the season with a 30-42 record away from home.
UP NEXT: The Zephyrs begin their final homestand of the season tonight. The
Zephyrs host the Omaha Royals in the first game of a four-game series at 7
p.m. at Zephyr Field. Right-hander Steve Watkins (6-7, 4.23 ERA) will start
for New Orleans, opposed by right-hander Kyle Middleton (0-6, 5.11).
