Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis and Iowa split a doubleheader with the Redbirds winning
the first game 4-2 and the Cubs picking up the win in the second game in extra
innings 11-7. The Redbirds rode a three-run first inning to victory in the
opening game. Back-to-back walks from Iowa starter Sean Marshall followed by a
one-out bases loaded walk to Brian Martin put the 'Birds on the board. Michel
Hernandez drove in a pair of runs with a ground out and an error from second
baseman Buck Coats. The 'Birds added one more in the sixth when Bo Hart scored
on a wild pitch. The Cubs scored both their runs in the sixth thanks to a Casey
McGehee two-run double. John Webb (6-10) earned the win with 5.2 innings of
work. The right-hander allowed two runs on five hits with three strikeouts to
pick up his team-leading sixth victory. Sean Marshall (0-1), who was on a Major
League rehab assignment, took the loss after allowing three runs, two earned, on
two hits with five walks in three innings. Josh Kinney fanned two in nailing
down his second save. Iowa belted their way to an 11-7 win in the second game of
the night. The Cubs hit two grand slams in the game with Luis Montanez's slam in
the top of the ninth being the difference in the game. Micah Hoffpauir belted
the team's first slam of the night in the third inning. The Redbirds rallied
with a run in the seventh inning to send the game to extras. Mike Rose drove in
Shawn Garrett to tie the game at 7-7. Wilton Chavez (5-2) earned the win for
Iowa in relief. Chavez tossed two scoreless innings to pick up the win. Brian
Falkenborg (4-4) took the loss for the Redbirds after allowing four runs on
