Micah Hoffpauir had two hits, including a home run, and drove in five to lead
the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx to a 15-6 pasting of the Carolina Mud Cats. West Tenn
(27-19) won for the fifth time in six tries while the Mud Cats (25-22) lost for
just the second time in six games. Hoffpauir slugged a two-run homer during a
five-run fourth inning, and had a three-run double in the eighth inning. The
Diamond Jaxx had 14 men come to the plate in the eighth inning, and had seven
hits, two walks and a hit batsman en route to a seven-run outburst that put the
game away. Richard Lewis and Geovany Soto each added home runs for West Tenn in
the contest. Sean Marshall (1-1) gave up
five hits, three walks and three runs in five innings of work but still got the
win. Nic Ungs (3-2) was thumped for seven hits and eight runs -- seven earned --
in 4 2/3rd innings. Carolina reliever Todd Moser was ripped for seven hits, two
walks and seven earned runs in just an inning of work and saw his ERA skyrocket
to 9.56.
