An excerpt from an interview with the
Lansing Lugnuts broadcaster Seth VanHoven published online on 7/1/04.
Q: Who would you say was the Lugnuts’ first half MVP both at the
plate and on the hill?
Seth VanHoven: Boy a tough one on the offensive side of things. Both
Brian Dopirak and
Kevin Collins had such monstrous first halves. The thing about both guys that
was really impressive, especially with Kevin, was the improved plate presence
they both exhibited at times. It's close, but I’ll give it to Brian only
because of the way he finished the first half. Pitching-wise, my nod goes to
Sean Marshall, who is now at AA. He gave us
a chance every night out and if not for some shoddy bullpen performances, he
would have been 5-0 or 6-0 instead of 2-0 when he was promoted in mid-May. A
close second would be between
Billy Petrick and
Carlos Marmol.
