Minor League Notebook 5/12/04
Class-A Lansing Lugnuts
BURLINGTON, Iowa - LHP
Sean
Marshall has been one of the best pitchers in the Midwest league this
season, but due to an inefficient offense, he has not factored in a decision in
his last five starts.
That all changed Tuesday night.
Marshall went the distance Tuesday, tossing a complete game, 2-hit shutout as
Lansing blanked the Burlington Bees, 6-0. Marshall struck out nine on the night
and did not allow a walk to improve to 2-0 on the year.
First baseman Brian Dopirak provided enough offense for Marshall with his 11th
homerun of the year off Royals prospect Ambiorix Burgos. DH
Kevin
Collins also had another great night for the Lugnuts, going 2-for-4 with an
RBI. Shortstop
Carlos
Rojas was a good table-setter for the Lugnuts Tuesday, scoring three runs
with a pair of hits and one walk.

From Prospect Watch - May 12th.
Lansing (Mid A): First basemen
Kevin Collins and
Brian Dopirak continue to knock the cover off the ball in Class-A action this
season. Collins is batting .340 with nine homeruns and 26 RBIs.
Dopirak has 11 homeruns with 27 RBIs, while little-known outfielder
Chris
Walker is batting .308 for the Lugnuts in the leadoff position. Walker has
also driven in 12 runs while stealing 19 bases.
The Lugnuts' rotation is still the talk of the town. Pitchers
Sean
Marshall,
Carlos
Marmol, Ronald Bay and
Billy
Petrick are still receiving plenty of praise this season.
Marshall is sporting a 1.11 ERA (third in the Midwest League) and a .684 WHIP
(second in the league) in seven starts this season. He has fanned 512 guys in
48.2 innings while only walking four.
