2004 RECAP: Fox turned in a solid season in his first full year in the Cubs' system after being drafted out of Michigan in the 2003 draft. He split time behind the plate with another early-round draft selection in Alan Rick, and seemed to outperform his competition as a whole.

In addition to batting a solid .287 for the year, Fox was the Lugnuts' most clutch hitter in 2004, leading the team with a .362 average with 2 outs/RISP. In fact, over half of Fox's 55 RBIs came in that very situation.

Fox's teammates praised him for his leadership on the field. "He’s a good guy to throw to," LHP Sean Marshall told ITI in early May. "I threw to him once or twice [in 2003], and you could tell there were a couple of things he needed to work on, but he nailed them down in the off-season and in spring training.

"He knows what I want to throw in certain situations, so we’re on the same page. I really enjoy having him on the team.”

The most alarming thing about Fox all year were his 25 passed balls, which doubled that of most every other catcher in the Cubs' farm system.
