Paints blank Otters behind Marshall

Brian Marshall pitched his way out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning and then breezed through the Evansville lineup for 61¼3 solid innings to pick up his first victory of the season in a 3-0 Paints win.
"By the third or fourth inning I was in that rhythm," Marshall told WXIZ radio's postgame show. "I've got something to build on going into the All-Star break."
In just his first fourth start of the season, Marshall had his best outing, scattering five hits and three walks and striking out five.
At one point Marshall faced the minimum of 12 batters over a four inning span. He allowed just one runner to reach base on a single, and then picked him off of first base.
To help Marshall out, the Paints' offense handed him a 2-0 lead after the first inning when Jon Poterson ripped a two-run double to score Lance Koenig and Gavin Ng.
Koenig later added a solo home run in the fifth for the game's third and final run.
Evansville did not threaten offensively again until the seventh inning when two runners reached base on bloop singles.
"It was a little frustrating when I was rolling like that," Marshall said. "It broke me out of my rhythm. I just had to keep the ball from rolling."
Justin Drabek came in to pitch the Paints out of the jam. Drabek tossed a perfect 12¼3 innings before Ryan Flanigan closed out the game for his first save of the year.
The victory ups the Paints record to 20-25 overall. Chillicothe remains in third place in the Frontier League's East Division, 71¼2 games behind first place Washington and single game behind second-place Florence.
The Paints and Otters will play the final game of the season's first half today at 1:05 p.m.
Perry Cunningham (3-3, 5.79 ERA) will start for the Paints against Evansville's Jake Haggerty (2-4, 6.10).
The FL All-Star game will be Wednesday at Florence.
