SAN DIEGO, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Rich Harden gave up a lone hit over seven innings Wednesday, sending the Chicago Cubs coasting to a 7-1 victory over San Diego.
Harden (8-7), plagued by a lack of run support in recent outings, gave up a two-out single to Adrian Gonzalez in the first inning and the Padres did not manage another hit until Sean Marshall gave up two singles and a run in the ninth. Harden walked three and struck out eight.
In his previous outing, Harden gave up just two runs on two hits in seven innings, but left the game against Philadelphia with the score tied. Against Cincinnati in the start before that, the Cubs were shut out while Harden gave up three runs.
Aramis Ramirez supported Harden with three RBI, two of them with a third-inning double and another on a sixth inning homer. Milton Bradley hit a solo home run in the sixth.
Mat Latos (7-9) surrendered five runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss.
