- Sorry, I've been offline for a while during the off
season. I've reformatted the menu's, hopefully for easier access
to things. I'm interested in your feedback if there is something
that could be better.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Winfield's and their brush
with those California wildfires. I hope all is well.
Sean has been reported on in Baseball America again. I hope to
get that up on the web in the next few days.
Brian is back from Florida. Both of them have nice new

Sean, on being part of the 2003 Midwest League Champion Lansing Lugnuts.
Reformatted website to make it a little more manageable, as well as
easier for you to find things. I am interested in your
feedback. Plans call for the addition of a discussion area.
We will be able to share perspective, thoughts, game actions etc.
You have been very good at helping me with content. This would
provide an interesting place for the boys to look back at someday.

09/09/03 - Trying for a more uniform look across pages.
You'll be seeing big changes over the office season, to hopefully make this a
more user friendly navigable site. When it first started, I didn't
realize just how much content there would be. We now need to make some
adjustments to better maintain the site. Also added Sean's Lansing
jersey number to various pages. |
09/07/03 - Stats,
box score and game summaries
have been added from last night's victory over Battle Creek. The Lugnuts
now move onto the final series to determine the Champions of the Midwest
League.
09/07/03 - Sean picked
up his first professional playoff game win. He pitched 6 2/3 strong innings this evening. He allowed no runs on two hits, walked
two while striking out 7 and hitting one batter. He helped the Lugnuts close
out the Battle Creek Yankees on their way to the Championship series for the
Midwest League.

score from Brian's 15th appearance of the season.
09/04/03 -
The Lowell Spinner’s season came to a close last evening. Brian came in again last evening to shut down the
Expos. He pitched the 9th, allowing no hits or base runners, striking out one.
From the time Brian started to see action, until the end of the season, he pitched in 15 games out 40 games Lowell had. Of those 40, 4 were double
headers due to rain. He
ended up with a 1-1 record, and 6 saves. Those 6 saves came out of 6 save opportunities.

closed out the Expos.

The 8-1 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps featured good hitting, solid defense, and the
emergence of a new Lugnut who was overpowering in his debut. Lefthander Sean Marshall, the Cubs'
sixth-round draft choice out of Virginia Commonwealth University, struck out 11 hitters and walked none in a seven-inning start, allowing five hits and one
unearned run. The strikeout total is the Lugnuts' second-highest single-game total this year.
Lansing takes a day off before beginning its postseason on the road in South Bend on Wednesday. They face
the Silver Hawks' Adriano Rosario at 8 p.m. Lansing time. The Lugnuts will use righty Anderson Tavarez.

08/30/03 - What a difference a day makes. The Doubleday's blew out the Spinners last night.
The Spinners put that behind them, and came out tonight and beat Auburn 2-1 in 11 innings. Brian pitched the 10th & 11th allowing one hit, but
shutting Auburn down.

It is certainly tough to lose when there is no hitting behind you. As summed up by Mr. Winfield : "The game just ended in the West.
Yakima beats the Boise Hawks 1-0. Sean pitches 7 innings giving up 1 unearned run, striking out 9 and allowing only 3 hits. Accordingly, he was
given the loss (5-6). What a shame!!. With 9 KO's, Sean is tied with teammate Rich Hill for the most strikeouts in the NW League.
Additionally, Sean was selected as the Hawks player of the game."

I couldn't sum it up any better than the Spinners did. "Brian
Marshall has emerged as a dominant closer, picking up a save for the second consecutive night. Marshall has five saves in ten appearances this season.
He worked a perfect ninth and struck out the side to finish off the Crosscutters

Sean and Brian appeared in action on the same night for the third time this season. Both had excellent outings.
Sean pitched a superb ballgame last night. He shut out Tri-city for 7 innings. He scattered three hits, one of which was a dribbler to
second. Tri-City ended up winning as Boise failed to score any runs. Sean was selected as the Boise player of the game.
Brian picked up his 4th save last night. He pitched the ninth, shutting down Williamsport while
striking out two.

Both boys saw action last night (8/6). Brian started and won his 5th game of the season, while
throwing his first professional and the teams first shutout of the season. He went 6 strong innings scattering 5 hits. Brian also his fourth
action of the season. If the score had been closer, he would have picked up his third save in 4 tries. Brian has now pitched in 3 1/3 innings, not
having allowed a hit or a run.

Brian and the Spinners were rained out last night (8/1) in Troy NY.
The upcoming home stand for Boise is scheduled to be video broadcast over the internet via
Fiberpipe.

07/27/03 - Added a Scoreboards page for Brian. Added stats for both Brian
and Sean, as well as Box Scores and Game Summaries for Sean
and Brian from last nights action.
Both of the guys were in action last night. Brian saw his first professional action against the
Vermont Expos. He pitched 1 inning (the 9th) in relief and got his first professional save. See "Game Info" link or the Spinners link
below the stats header for information on this outing.
Sean also saw action last night. He picked up his third loss of the season. This was a
"team" loss. Sean pitched very well, giving up 4 runs, but none of the earned. The Hawks had 5 errors in the game.
